Description

To introduce Guides to handmade crafts (Pinecone Elf on the Shelf)

Resources

- pinecone
- felt in two different colours
- small amount of cardboard
- large plain wooden bead or self-dry clay rolled into a ball with a hole punched through to allow it to be glued on to the pinecone
- black marker
- glue gun
- paintbrush and red acrylic paint
- metallic bead, sewing needle and thread

Instructions

Instructions

1. To make: Hot-glue a 2cm wooden craft bead (hole side down) or self-made clay head to the end of the pinecone. Draw two eyes with a black felt pen. Dab a small, dry paintbrush into red acrylic paint and blot it. Lightly dab onto the wooden bead or clay head for rosy cheeks.
2. To make mittens: Print and cut out the mittens from the elf template. Stack two pieces of felt. Place the mitten template on top, trace it and cut out the shapes. Repeat the same again to make another pair. With matching thread, use a blanket stitch to join them together.
3. Draw feet on the cardboard, cut them out and glue felt onto the cardboard. Leave it to dry and then glue it to the end of the pinecone.
4. To make the scarf and hat: Cut out a rectangular piece of felt for the scarf and wrap it around the pinecone. Cut out a triangular piece of felt for the hat, curl it and attach a metallic bead to the top by pulling a needle and thread up through the pointy section, through the bead, then back down again and knot it underneath.
