Set-up Instructions for Game Host
1. Read entire game pack and understand story
● Important! Do not let players read game pack/story.
● During the game, tell the story in your own way. Ensure you are familiar with the
situations and decisions the teams will encounter, so you can introduce them
properly. Other than that, be creative!
2. Prepare a question to be asked by the Sphinx at the end of the game
3. Schedule game time and send calendar invitations to all players
● If theming the game, send provided campfire virtual background, and invite
players to dress in camping clothing on the day.
4. Select 1-7 teams of 10 players (if additional players needed to complete a team, create
additional virtual characters — ensure these are in balanced numbers across each team)
5. Create a chat channel (“All-Teams Chat”) in messaging app (e.g. #hikegame; you can
also repurpose an existing company-wide channel e.g. #watercooler)
● Add Game Host and all players to the channel
● Post initial welcome message in this channel:
This All-Teams Chat is to be used during our upcoming game. You do not need
to post or do anything yet.
6. Create one chat channel per team (“Team Chat”) in messaging app (e.g. #hiketeam1)
● Add Game Host and team members to relevant team chat
● Create an initial welcome message in each team chat:
This is your Team Chat to be used during our upcoming game. You do not need
to post or do anything yet.
● Create an initial Team List message in each team chat. This is a vertical list of
each team member containing 10 names in total plus a final line called “General
Backpack”:
1. Name 1
2. Name 2
3. Name 3
[continue until 10th name reached]
