Description

This is a game I made up to teach Beavers social distancing. They loved it. :)
It's a go-large version of the plastic fishing game we all had as children where you fished for tiny cardboard fish with magnets on. This one uses bamboo sticks, wool & fish printed on A4 paper.

Resources

Per Beaver:
A fishing rod made from a bamboo cane about a metre long with a bit of wool about half a metre long tied to one end.
Fish printed (I used Google image to find different ones) on A4 paper & each one slotted into a punched pocket / plastic envelope so it can be cleaned in between use. You need about 10 fish per Beaver.
A cone or something to demark where the Beaver stands.
Leaders to count the caught fish.
Dettox / similar & a cloth to clean the fish in between rounds (covid cleansing) - parent helpers available to clean, as the game progresses, if possible.

Instructions

Divide the Beavers into two teams. (The Leaders can create the second team if you want, but it's exhausting!)
Set up the cones for the Beavers to stand BEHIND two metres apart from each other in a linear line.
Scatter the fish about 2 metres in front of the cones.
Give one team a fishing rod each & have them stand behind the cones.
The other team stands behind the fish, facing the fishing Beavers, so you have two teams of Beavers facing each other with a 2 metre gap in between.

The fishing Beavers have 10 minutes to "catch" the fish. They must land the end of their woollen line on the fish - not the paper it's printed on, but the fish on the paper.
The other Beavers pick up the caught fish & place them in a designated spot for the Leader to count & to be cleaned.
The winning fishing Beaver is the one who caught the most in the 10 minutes. If they finish earlier, the winning Beaver is the one who caught all their fish & finished first.
Then the fish are cleaned & the teams are swapped over for the next round.

This teaches how much 2 metres is & what it feels like to the Beaver so they're more able to stay 2 metres apart.
It can be used for Teamwork : Team Game & also for Teamwork : Friend because it's teaching the Beavers to be considerate of other people.
