Instructions

Ask the girls to share how they know if someone is stressed (always easier for them to start talking about someone else), and then how they know if they are stressed themselves. Try a Calming Technique such as this as one way to reduce stress.

54321 Calming Techniques
This technique has been around for a long time. The 5 steps can help you to calm down and it can be a good tool to use when working with children to help them calm down when they are experiencing any unwanted emotions or thoughts i.e., anxiety, stress, worry etc.

Start with deep breathing as the introduction. Breathe in for 5 seconds, hold the breath for 5 seconds and breathe out for 5 seconds. Do this a couple of times until you find your thoughts slowing down. Go through the numbers in order to help ground yourself in the present moment.
This can be a lovely meditation exercise to do. Once everyone is ready encourage them to close their eyes and visualise their favourite place.
Call out the 5 numbers slowly with clear instructions and allow the participants time to think of the various things required for each number while relaxing and listening to the music.
