Instructions
1. Everyone should begin the game in the start zone you’ve marked out.
2. The person leading the game should start the game by shouting ‘green light’ and holding up something green. This is the sign for everyone to run towards the finish zone.
3. The person leading the game should shout ‘red light’ and hold up something red. This is the sign for everyone to stop running and quickly balance on one leg for five seconds.
4. If anyone loses their balance during the red light, they should jump back towards the start zone 10 times.
5. The person leading the game should keep shouting green or red light at different times.
6. Everyone should keep playing until they’ve all made it to the finish zone.
Change the level of challenge?
Play with a moving finish zone: you could move the area every three light changes so that everyone has to run in a different direction.
Change the way everyone moves – can they hop or jump when the green light is showing instead?
Make it accessible
Think about how everyone will move around the space. If some of the group would find it difficult to balance on one leg, you could ask everyone to stand as still as they can instead. Remind everyone that the aim of the game is for everyone to reach the finish zone, it’s not a race!
