Shrinking potato slices

Description
The human body needs water to survive. When we don’t get enough water, it ‘s called dehydration. Carry out this activity to learn the effects of dehydration.
Resources
Potatoes
Knives
Chopping boards
Paper and pens
String
Sunny/warm area
Instructions
• Cut thin slices of raw potatoes (about ½ cm) and give a slice to each girl.
• Trace the outline of the potato slice onto a piece of paper.
• Make a small hole near one end of the slice.
• Take a length of string about 50cm in length and thread one end through the potato slice. Tie a knot in the thread and hang outside in the sun to dry.
• When the slices of potato have dried, compare them with the original tracings. Have the slices become smaller?
Question - If your body dried up like the potato slices, both inside and out, what do you think it would feel like?
