Description

Why does a rainbow appear when the sun lights up a shower of rain? We can find out by adding sunshine to a bowl of water.

Resources

Equipment
• glass fish bowl (or similar bowl) filled with water
• black cardboard
• white cardboard

Instructions

First, move a table to a sunny place and place the black cardboard down on it. Now place the fish bowl, filled with water, on the cardboard.
Place the white cardboard to the side of the fish bowl. Hold the white cardboard so the side of it that is facing you is shaded. You will find that a rainbow appears on the cardboard.
