Aim of the Badge
One of the targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 is to ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature by 2030. There are 5 activities in this badge. Activities 1 and 2 are compulsory. Complete one of the three optional activities 3-5.

Introduction
Activity No.2: The story of Theo and the Giant Plastic Ball is compulsory. This activity is to teach the Ladybirds about single-use plastics in a fun way.

Instructions
Read the story to the girls. Where possible allow the girls to see the pictures on the pages. When you’re finished reading it, ask them what they have learned.
Given them some clean soft plastics (e.g. plastic bags, wrapping) and ask them to make their own ball and test it throwing it.

Acknowledgement/Source
The SDG 12 Badge was developed as part of an Irish Aid funded project. Theo and the Giant Plastic Ball is part of the Tunza Environmental Series for Children, sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). "Tunza" means to treat with care or affection in Swahilli. UNEP hopes to inspire caring for the Earth through creative literature that sparks the interest and awareness of children, their parents and teachers.
