Instructions

Briefly talk about photography

Different Types Of Photography – can they think of any?

Landscape Photography (wide angle lens)
Aerial Photography (drones)
Portrait Photography (people)
Wedding Photography
Fashion Photography
Sports Photography (fast camera, long lens)
Architectural Photography (wide angle lens)
Candid Photography (portrait lens)
Lifestyle Photography
Abstract Photography
Macro Photography (special closeup camera)
Astro Photography (the stars!)

The list is likely endless! But all the different types could likely require special equipment or lighting.

Photography Orientation – Think about how to hold the camera

What is Landscape and Portrait?

The main difference between landscape and portrait image orientation is that a landscape image is
wider than it is taller while a portrait image is taller than it is wider.
When could you use them?

If your subject or scene is taller than it is wide, then it is likely you will want to set your camera in
portrait format. If it is wider than it is tall, it is likely landscape mode will work better. But, these are
not hard and fast rules

1) Faces In Places and Shapes In Spaces

Look more closely at your surroundings and find objects with hidden faces, or objects which make
shapes – squares, circles, or patterns for example.

Objective – Looking for photos which are close-ups, example the locks and handles on doors, the
straight lines of a park bench, the hungry face of a bin!, texture of the bark on a tree, the pattern of
the tennis court fence…

2) 20 Second Chase

Set a 20 second timer and run anywhere in the park, when the timer goes off stop, and whoever has
the camera look around and take a photo.

Objective – to look at their surroundings, is there an interesting closeup of plants or texture and
shapes? Or is there a nice landscape of the park and trees? Or clouds in the sky? Is there a good
photo low down, or a fun photo if they stood on a bench?

3) Photo Detective (requires a leader to take photos of the meeting venue and either print them out, or have them on a device) THIS CAN BE SKIPPED FOR EASE

Starting at the usual meeting point, using the printed photos try and work out where the photos
were taken in the park – run over to that place in the park, and give the next numbered photo to a
different Beaver to lead the investigation.

Objective – to look closely at a picture and look for clues to work out where they were taken, can also time to complete - fastest lodge wins points.

4) Slideshow

Choose at least 10 photos from the evening and make a slideshow from tasks 1 and 2 (and 5).

Objective – to look through their photos and select their favourite pictures as a group, perhaps
talking about their reasons – artistic, pretty, etc.

Tip! How To Make A Slideshow – click on the Photos app, choose Select (top right?), tick the photos
to include in the slideshow, click the export icon bottom left and choose slideshow

5) Arty Self-Portraits (if more time)

Think about things that define you as a person or beaver, your badges, your hair, your shoes, talk
with your lodge about what makes you a little different or unique.

Objectives – think of other ways to take a self-portrait, perhaps their badges, or hands, or clothes, if
sporty perhaps a picture of them running or jumping, perhaps they are a thinker…
