Description

By using Pioneering poles or broom handles get the Scouts to lash them together to make a longer pole, attach a match on the end and you have to light it with a burning candle a set distance away.

Pioneering poles or broom handles
Rope
Candle
Matches
Sellotape

Instructions

1. Separate Scouts into Patrols or teams (Ideally groups of 3 or 4)
2.Draw a line on the floor which shouldn't be crossed
3.Light a candle a place 2 metres away from the line
4. Give each team 3 or 4 poles, enough lengths of rope to lash them together a match and (tape string or Blu tack)
4.Lash the poles together to make a longer pole
5.When long enough to reach the candle attach the match (by tape, string or Blu tack)
6.Light the match at the end of your extended pole to win
