Table-Top Marble Run
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
In Sixes, build a horizontal marble run that can carry a marble from one end of the table to the other!
Resources
Cardboard tubes, lego, paper, anything else a marble can run down
Marbles
Sticky tape
Scissors
A table - folding tables are best if you want to chain the marble runs together
Boxes/pots & pans/lego etc. for supporting the tubes
Instructions
A few weeks before the meeting, ask everyone to save cardboard tubes and bring them in on the night.
Give each Six a table, a starting share of tubes to complement any they have brought in themselves, scissors, tape and some items to give height to the start of their runs.
Define the start and end positions of the run and tell the Cubs to connect them up so that a marble will run from the start to the end without stopping.
You can make it a competition with the winning Six being the one whose run takes the longest to complete.
If you are using folding tables and you carefully measure the start heights, it is possible to chain multiple runs together. Put the last run on the floor with the table legs folded up, then the one before that on top of benches (again with the legs folded up) and the one before that on the floor with the legs down etc. You'll need some extra tubes for connecting the runs together.
