Activities to meet the current requirements for Stage 1 of Emergency Aid.

Resources

Practice (expired) bandages for bleeds, enough for one per pair in a lodge/base group.

You may like to include some YouTube videos etc. to demonstrate the recovery position if needed.

Instructions

Base 1: Talk about calling 999 and the importance of getting help & then do practice phonecalls in pairs/as a small group. Have a go at trying to reassure another Beaver (taking it in turns to be the helper/injured person).

Base 2: Explain how to check if someone is breathing & what to do if they're unconscious e.g. recovery position. Demonstrate the recovery position and then ask the Beavers to practice in pairs.
NB - CPR is not included at this stage, so it will not be included/practiced on this evening, but in a later evening.

Base 3: Ask the Beavers what they might do for someone who is bleeding? Prompt conversation around plasters for minor cuts & bandaging/ambulance for bigger bleeds. Give them some bandages to practice with, in pairs.
