Figure of 8 relay
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Scouts form 4 teams or patrols of equal number. Race around a fig. 8 in relay fashion. first team to finish wins
Resources
4 scout staves or broom handles (broom handles much cheaper if you don't have scout staves)
4 benches
4 rubber rings or dixie lids or similar to push round floor.
Instructions
Make 4 teams of equal number.
Place 4 benches in a X pattern on the hall floor with space all around the benches, so a gap in the X, for scouts to run round.
Scouts to sit side straddle on the benches oldest to youngest 1 patrol/team per bench facing towards the centre of the X
The person at the front of each team is given a scout stave or broom handle and a rubber ring, dixie lid or whatever you are using.
On the word GO the 4 scouts at the front run round the X in a clockwise figure of 8, all in the same direction, pushing the rubber ring with their stave. Meanwhile the other scouts move up their bench, still sitting, ready for their turn.
When the running scout gets back to his place he hands over the pole and ring and number 2 starts running while no.1 sits at the back of the bench. This continues until all have run with first team to finish getting a point.
You can vary the route by having the scouts run anticlockwise or else start with youngest to oldest. If you are feeling brave have all the teams run straight ahead to begin their figure of 8. Pandemonium but fun to watch.
