Instructions

There are many clips on YouTube.
Once the children have watched the clip then:
- split into groups of 6-9. Each group to have 2 long ropes with 3 leaders/helpers; 2 to turn the ropes and 1 to direct children.
- first try normal long rope skipping (just use one rope) with adults turning the ropes. First start with the child standing by the rope and just jumping as it's turned. When they've all had a couple of goes then see if any can 'jump in' whilst it turns. It's likely that most children will find this enough of a challenge!
- next try double dutch skipping. If you have an older child/adult who can demonstrate then that will help. Let them have a go but no pressure!
- then back to long rope (one rope) skipping with a rhyme: -
Sausage in a pan, sausage in a pan, turn 'em over, turn 'em over, sausage in a pan
When you call 'turn 'em over' the child faces the other direction then back again for the second call.
All children join in the chanting!
