Reduced Inequalities, Disability Awareness (SDGs)
Outcomes:
1. Increased awareness about disabilities
2. Learn about some fantastic women with disabilities
3. Understanding if our own meeting spaces are accessible

Resources

- White papers
- Pencils or colouring pencils to draw with
- materials to make rainmakers (this can differ depending on what is accessible to the girls). They could use rice, rice crispies, frozen peas inside sounds. For the containers, they could use balloons, lunch boxes, cardboard tubes and tape to close the bottoms. The girls can be creative as they want!

Instructions

Introduction/Icebreakers
The throw a ball game: the girls throw an imaginary ball at someone in the room. They shout a girls name and throw an imaginary ball. The girl then introduces herself with her name, age, county or country she is from and something they like using the first letter of their name. She then throws a ball at the next person until everyone gets turn - in Zoom room.


Activity 1
Irish Sign language in Zoom
Learn to spell your name in Irish Sign Language - I will share a sheet with them that has ISL letters on them and the girls can try to make up their names.
The learn how to sign 10 words in ISL, I will have 10 words ready to teach the girls.

Activity 2
Communicate not using words - in Zoom
The girls can think up a simple sentence or can be sent a private message with something to say. On a sheet of paper, they can draw a picture of what they are trying to say. The girls will try and guess some of what the picture says. The whole point is to communicate with each other without words.

Activity 3
Make rainmakers on their own and display on Zoom.
Using the materials the girls can make up rainmakers/shakers to make sound. They can make this out of Zoom and they can show us on Zoom and discuss what they made with us.

Activity 4
I will be putting together a Kahoot Quiz about senses and disabilities that the girls can take part in.

Debrief/Discussion
PowerPoint and questions (10')
- we will discuss 3 different disabilities
- explain how disabilities can affect someone's life communication difficulties, opportunities for education and employment, how other people see the disability rather than the person etc.
- explain the Paralympics
- show some fantastic and powerful Paralympian women
- some famous women with disabilities
- take some questions from the girls if they have any

Another discussion topic
Give the girls some time to draw a map of their place and then have a discussion on if your meeting hall is friendly for a wheelchair user or for people who have a physical disability.
