SET UP:

Randomly place items in the grid. (ideally with some red herrings)
Spilt scouts up into pairs.
Hand each pair a pen and paper.
Scouts to draw 4 by 4 grid on their piece of paper.
Scouts decided between them who is going first - the second scouts is to hold the pen and paper and be ready to draw.
ACTIVITY:
The first scout is to run up to the big grid previously prepared.
One leader/young leader will be there to give the scouts a 6 figure grid reference,
The scouts will use this grid reference to work out what item is in the given grid reference.
The scouts are then to run back to their partner and tell them the six figure grid reference and what item is there.
This is repeated until you feel that all teams have had equal turns/or until all items are used.
AIM:
Scouts to feel confident and understand 6 figure grid references
ALTERNATIVE IDEAS:
The scouts have a grid reference with a list of items. They run to the big grid made up to find the 6 figure grid reference to be able to replicate they big grid.
Use pictures of items to take on an expedition/hike and they need to decide which items to take (to consolidate 6 figure grid references and what to pack
