Description

Approximately 5 mile night hike for the Scout section on a troop night. Follows route 1 (see Google Drive) with a stop at a chip shop mid-route.

Instructions

In advance:

- Send meeting location and kit list to parents
- Submit activity form and risk assessment to DC
- Review route for any changes
- Review risk assessment
- Brief Scouts on clothing and equipment required
- Pick up first aid kits (activity type x 2)

On arrival:

- Meet at 19:00 at starting point
- Register Scouts
- Remind parents that pick-up is at 21:00
- Check Scouts for appropriate clothing and equipment as per kit, paying particular attention to warm layers and suitable footwear

During:

- Follow route 1 (see Google Drive / Scout Section Shared Drive / Programme / Hikes)
- Pay particular attention to points in risk assessment regarding road crossing and walking alongside the river
-Stop at chip shop for break and chips mid-walk
- Make frequent checks on all Scouts and be aware of signs of cold, fatigue and hypothermia

On departure:

- Check Scouts out
- Return first aid kits
- Submit chip shop receipt to Section treasurer
