Description
Session to learn a little about the history of Scouts, light a candle and reflect on our Promise.
Resources
Tea light candles and matches (long ones best for children lighting a match for the first time) and a "burns bucket" of clean fresh tap water.
Copy of timeline and B-Ps last message
Instructions
Show the children the picture of Lord Robert Baden-Powell and ask them what, if anything, they know about him and why he might be important.
Following their responses explain that he created Scouts and helped to create Girl Guides with the help of his sister and run through a brief timeline.
Beavers can sort attached into order.
Explain that 22nd February, B-P's birthday, is commemorated each year as "Founders Day" and that it is a good opportunity for us to remember him and everyone who has made, and continues to make, Scouts special and reflect on what it means to be a Scout.
Sit in a circle and offer out tealights and matches. Demonstrate safe striking and Beavers light a candle before sitting quietly to listen to B-Ps last message read to them.
Make our Beaver Scout Promise. Reflect on our promise and what we have done and/or will do to keep it . Blow out candles.
