Take on an Engineering Challenge (Pizza Box Solar Oven)

- 1 pizza box
- Kitchen foil
- Pen
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Glue or Tape
- Black Paper
- Kebab Stick

Instructions

Tell the girls that they are engineers tasked with designing a sustainable cooking solution, a solar oven. The inside of the pizza box is where the food will be cooked.

1. Clean out the pizza box and draw a square on the top of the closed box that is 1 inch from the edge. With an adults help, cut through 3 sides to make a flap that will reflect the sun.
2. Use glue or tape to cover the inside of the flap with aluminum foil. Smooth the wrinkles. Open the box and cover the bottom and sides with foil. Place a piece of paper on top of the foil in the bottom of the box and tape it n place.
3. Cover any small holes with tape. Carefully close the box and use a kebab stick or pencil to prop open the flap to a 90-degree angle.
4. Your oven is ready to cook! Take the oven outside and put it in a sunny location. You can make nachos and more yummy treats using a paper or foil plate.
