Description

Instructions to build a cardboard oven using tea lights instead of a Barbecue.

Resources

1 x Medium-sized cardboard box, fully intact.
1 x Box of tinfoil (10 metres is plenty).
1 x Grill rack (must be at least 10mm smaller than bottom of carboard box and big enough for 4 mini pizzas)
4 x Empty pop cans, empty bean tins or similar.
100 x Tea lights (as of 19-03-2022, Tesco do a pack of 100 for £2.50)
1 x Scissors
1 x Mini pizza per Scout (as of 19-03-2022, Tesco do a 4-pack for £2.20)

Instructions

Might be a good idea (depending on the weather) to build the oven inside and go outside to use it.

If you have access to a real oven, might be wise to warm this up incase building the carboard mini pizza oven takes longer than expected. This way, at least the Scouts can eat the food, albeit cooked by leaders.

1. Cut the flaps off the cardboard box and discard. leaving the four sides and the bottom intact.
2. Cover the box in PLENTY of tinfoil (inside and outside). Ensure there are absolutely no gaps as this could cause a fire.
3. Go outside and stand the grill rack on your four cans/tins. Ensure this is on a flat, level surface.

IMPORTANT: If using empty bean tins for example, the paper wrapping is a fire hazard. It would be advisable to remove this as such.

4. Add 1 layer of tinfoil to the grill rack which you'll put the pizzas on later.
5. Light the tea lights (try 6 to begin with) and poke them in-bewteen the cans/tins, underneath the grill rack. Make sure they're evenly spread.
6. Lay the mini pizza(s) on the layer of tinfoil you put on the grill rack earlier.
7. Carefully place the box over the top of the grill, using the flat, level ground to make a seal.
8. Add more tealights to increase heat if necessary.

Cooking time varies.

I've only ever tried this with cheese and tomato mini pizzas, but I'm sure it could be used for other food items.
