Description

Send a thank you letter to the Queen

Send HM The Queen with a thank you letter from your group. Share your responses on social #HM70 and #PlatinumJubilee

The Queen is shown almost all of her correspondence on a daily basis by one of her Private Secretaries, and she takes a keen interest in the letters she receives.

Resources

Pens or pencils (including colours - Red, White, and Blue would be great!)

Letter template (attached - feel free to create your own).

Instructions

The person leading the activity should explain to everyone that they will be writing a Thank You letter to the Her Majesty The Queen, Queen Elizabeth the 2nd.

Everyone should think about the Queen and how she has set a great example of Leadership, Patriotism (loyalty to her country and her people), doing her duty to our country and the Commonwealth, showing strength and courage in difficult times, and helping to guide us all through difficult times.

She has also encouraged young people in our Nation and those of the Commonwealth to come together in friendship and friendly rivalry, in events such as the Commonwealth Games.

The Queen is our Patron in Scouting, she’s also the Patron of Girl Guiding. A patron is a person who gives support to a person, organization, or cause. The highest award you can get in Scouting is The Queen’s Scout Award, and the highest award in Girl Guiding is The Queen's Guide Award.

Young people should think about what they enjoy about Scouting and Thank the Queen for being our Patron.

Young people can write their own Thank You message and Draw Pictures on the Letter Template.

Leaders can post these to
Her Majesty The Queen
Buckingham Palace
London SW1A 1AA

If you wish to write a formal letter, you can open with 'Madam' and close the letter with the form 'I have the honour to be, Madam, Your Majesty's humble and obedient servant'.

This traditional approach is by no means obligatory. You should feel free to write in whatever style you feel comfortable.

(I would recommend putting the YP letters into 1 big envelope and sending it as one, perhaps with a covering letter from you!)
