While attending a Mother's Day church service in 1909, Sonora, 27 years old, came up with the idea to celebrate her father, a single parent who was raising her and her 5 brothers. Within a few months, Sonora had convinced the Spokane Ministerial Association (a religious organisation) and the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association, they are volunteers like us) to set aside a Sunday in June to celebrate fathers.
What does it mean when we celebrate Father’s Day?
- No incorrect answers, we love them, we are glad they are with us, grateful they play, take care of us and spend time with us. It’s a Thank You to dads, granddads step fathers any male role model in our lives.
How do we celebrate it?
-It’s very commercialised now; we often spend money, give cards and gifts but any time spent with your dad; talking, playing, even just telling jokes and laughing is a celebration that thank our dads for being our dads.
What does a person wearing a red rose on Father’s Day mean?
- The person's father is still alive.
What does a person wearing a white rose on Father’s Day mean?
-Someone’s lost their father.
When will Father’s Day be next year?
-3rd Sunday in June every year.
