Knots: Cuddly Rescue
Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK
Description
Beavers have fun rescuing their cuddlies by winching them over a ravine, learning four simple knots on the way.
Resources
- Each Beaver to bring a cuddly
- 1x 3m long piece of rope per pair of Beavers (+1 for leader to demo)
- 2x short (~50cm) piece of string or paracord per pair (+1 for leader)
- 2x anchor points per pair. We used chairs with open backs (+2 for leader)
Instructions
Step-by-step, leaders demonstrate and then help with these four knots:
- a reef knot to make a loop in the long piece of rope, one it has gone through the two chair backs
- a bowline in the paracord to make a harness
- an overhand on a bight to make a loop to attach the harness to
- a sheepshank to attach the harness to the loop
Beavers then winch their cuddlies to safety.
See attachment for full details, plus links to some sites with animations of the knots.
