Tie dye necker t-shirts/bandanas etc
Resources
plastic bottles (Sports cap)
dylon dye
gloves
box/buckets/bowls and wire cooling rack to put t shirt on for dying
elastic bands
funnels (made from paper will do
salt
water
kitchen roll
Instructions
leader prep
using funnel put dye in the bottom of the bottle covering the bottom by 1/2cm
add 1 tablespoon of salt
add warm water (approx 40 degrees), put on top and shake well until sediment is gone
activity
prepare item to be dyed - soak and wring item so its not dripping wet
make a pattern - spirral or striped and tie with elastic bands
wear gloves!!!
put t shirt on wire rack over bucket/basin
apply prepared dye by squeezing on keeping to segments
before turning item over - wipe clean the rack using kitchen roll
try to use same colours on the segments on the reverse.
Let excess dye drip off and bag it in a food or freezer bag over night.
Instructions for parents the following day
remove from bag - rinse under running cold water (with rubber bands still on) until water runs clear
take of bands and give a more thorough rinse
fill up sink with warm water and add non biological detergent
hand wash item to prevent dye running to other garments in the future
rinse and then let it dry out
when dry - iron on the reverse
