Kindness for the Queen

Description
The passing of HM The Queen may be difficult for your young people to process or cause them to reflect upon other grievances in their lives. Make sure you look out for these individuals and provide a safe and calm space for them to process their emotions.
Different people reflect and show respect in different ways, so chat to people (and their parents and carers) to find something that’ll work for them

Instructions
HM The Queen's kindness
Everyone should talk about how HM The Queen demonstrated care and kindness over her lifetime and her 70 years of dedicated service to the country. Does anyone know of any other charities that the Queen supported?
She supported a wide range of charitable causes over her reign. The causes she was patron of or supported ranged from charities helping young people and animals to ones helping the environment. You can find some information about the HM Queen’s support for charitable causes.
The person leading the activity should talk about the idea of doing acts of kindness, in memory of HM The Queen and to celebrate her life.
Explain that in grief, there’s also an opportunity to celebrate the beautiful life that was lived. Our monarch always showed a strong commitment to kindness, service, and duty. Our way of honouring and celebrating this is to complete our own acts of kindness.
Choose your act of kindness
Stick a large sheet of paper on the wall or lay it out on the floor or a table, so that everyone can access it. Everyone could have their own sheet of paper, or they could be split into groups to share pieces of paper, too.
Everyone should think about an act of kindness they’d like to do in memory of HM the Queen. This could be something the group could do together or that people could do individually.
People could think about what HM The Queen enjoyed and supported herself, as well as what they associate with the Queen. The person leading the activity can help everyone decide on an appropriate act of kindness.
Suggested acts of kindness:
- Support a local foodbank
- Grow community vegetables
- Pain kindness rocks
- Support animal welfare
- Create a winter garden
- Share memories across the generations
- Send welcoming messages
Everyone should write or draw their ideas on the paper.
When everyone’s finished, people can share their favourite idea if they want to.
You could get some stickers in the shape of the crown. Give a sticker to each person and ask them to take some time to explore all the ideas. They should stick the crown on their favourite activity.
This could be an act of kindness they do together as a group, something that everyone does individually, or people could choose a personal act of kindness, too.
