Queens wide game

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

A game loosely based on Postbox.

The aim is for the patrol to collect a set of four queens and return to the home base.

Resources

For five patrols:
20 counters or pieces to trade

6 x Queen of Hearts
6 x Queen of Spades
6 x Queen of Diamonds
6 x Queen of Clubs
Or some form of playing cards that ID similar to the above. For us we reused the cards we created for the Queen's time line.

For more or less Patrols - you will need four counters per patrol. You will also need one set of cards per patrol plus one extra - otherwise the adults will have nothing when it comes to the swapping part.

Optional - another random card

Five adults or "Ladies in waiting"

Plus the normal stuff:
A whistle
Scouts wearing boots, clothing suitable for the weather
Torches

Instructions

The object is for you as a Patrol to collect a full house of queens and be the first one to return to home base/finish with those Queens.
-

Scouts must be in a minimum of two people and a maximum one patrol. No Scout is to be by themselves.

Scouts must stay within the boundaries of the playing area.
-

One "Lady in waiting", aka an adult is at the home base or finish. They are prominent in the playing area, perhaps with a lantern.

The other four Ladies in waiting divide the playing cards between them and go and hide in the playing area. They can move around during the game.

Each patrol is given four counters. These are used to buy a card.

Through visiting the Ladies in waiting, and buying or swapping cards, the Patrol needs to get a complete set of Queens. Each card needs to be different before finishing. Beware of bogus cards. Once the Patrol has obtained a full set, they need to get to the finish/home base and check in with the Lady in waiting there. The first patrol back with a full set is the winner.

Take a moment to think through strategies. e.g. if you have found a Lady in waiting, do you want to alert all players to their whereabouts through being loud and flashing torches?

Once the game is started. The Patrol needs to find the Ladies in waiting and buy cards off of them. Once the Patrol has run out of cash, they can swap one of their cards for one that the Lady in waiting has.
The Patrol can only buy or swap one card at a time and must wait two minutes before approaching the same Lady in waiting.

If the Lady in waiting has run out of cards, they drop out of the game until they can get some cards from other Lady in waiting. They cannot accept payments whilst they are cardless.

Different strategies for Ladies in waiting:
- How should the cards be divided? Each person have the same queen, eg all the queen of hearts? Or perhaps one set each? Or completely random?
- How do you choose which card to give? Do you let them choose one? Do you give them a card you know they need? Or do you give them a random one from your deck, even if it is the same one back again.
- Random card - there could a random card in the mix. It won't help the patrol. They need to swap it for one of the queens.
