It’s a day of seeking forgiveness from God, before God writes each person’s fate for the coming year in the book of life. The final date to change the judgement is Yom Kippur.
In the 10-day period before Yom Kippur, it’s traditional for a Jew to amend their behaviour and seek forgiveness for wrongs he or she has done against other human beings.
