Depending on the size of raft to be constructed cut the bamboo to length, for example, for each raft cut:
- 2 x 9-inch lengths (get 4 from a 3-foot cane)
- 12 x 6-inch lengths (get 4 from a 2-foot cane)
- other lengths of cane available to convert raft to table if desired (optional)
Make an example raft so as to work out the length of sisal required for each of the 2 double floor lashings.
Search online for find a video of how to tie a double floor lashing (or follow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF9fYiKadjI)

Have plenty of adults on hand to help the Cubs/ Scouts/ Explorers tie the lashings
Optionally participants add a mast and sail (coloured in if desired). Race in a paddling pool.
Optionally demonstrate how to use square lashings to construct a framework to support the raft and thus convert it into a table, bench or chair.
