Description
Poppy craft using pinwheel cutout design - can be done on red paper or foam sheets to make a woggle (as seen on 1st Facebook Beaver Scout Colony post)
Resources
- Red paper with poppy template printed on it (2 per A4 sheet)
- Black paper - 1 inch diameter, 1 per poppy
- Green paper for leafe - approx 3" long, 1" wide, cut free hand
- Split pin
- Black permanent marker (optional)
To secure the poppy to a cross:
- 2 lolly sticks to make cross to stick the poppies to (optional)
- glue dot to stick the lolly sticks together and the poppy to the sticks.
To make a woggle:
- 3 pipecleaners per poppy
Instructions
- Use the black marker to colour the top of your split pin and leave it to dry (optional).
- Using the template, cut out the shape of your poppy pinwheel - cut along all the black lines.
- Cut out the leaf shape (free hand) - approx 3" long x 1" wide, tapered at one end.
- Cut out the centre circles - about 1" diameter (or pre-cut for a group by folding a piece of black paper to cut many in one go)
- Using the split pin or a hole punch, make a hole in the centre of the poppy and on each corner slightly away from the edges.
- Push the split pin through the black circle first.
- Fold the pointed end of your piece of red card to the middle, pushing the split pin through the layers to the back. (younger members might find this trick, so have help on hand!)
- Push the split pin through one end of the green leaf at the back.
- Open the split pin to secure it
- Use glue dots to stick the lolly sticks in the shape of a cross and stick to the back of the poppy.
The example on facebook did this with foam sheets and used 3 plaited/twisted pipe cleaners to make a woggle
