Description

The scouts will try a series of Alaskan native games to test their skills.

Resources

Rope, Ball, Sticks

Instructions

Explain to the scouts about the native peoples of Alaska - show a map if needed.
Explain that during the summer they will hunt and fish and use the natural resources that are available to them, but in the winter they will spend a lot of time indoors due to the climate.
While indoors, they play a number of games to keep themselves fit so that they can hunt again when the weather gets better in spring.
The games can't take a lot of space, as the people will be in small huts where space is at a premium.
Explain that there is now an annual native youth olympics, where tribes from all across Alaska come together to compete at these native games, which all practice some element of hunting or skill.
