Description

Make film cannisters pop and fly upwards using alka seltzer tablets and water.

Resources

20 alka seltzer tablets
2 250ml measuring jugs
1 1L measuring jug
6 film cannisters

Instructions

Take a table outside and lay out the materials,
Pair Cubs up,
Ask Cub 1 to take a film cannister and remove the lid
The Cub 2 to fill it 1/3 full of water using a 250ml jug
The Leader takes the cannister and the lid, ready to attach the lid
Ask Cub 1 to break an alka seltzer tablet in half and drop it in to the cannister on the count of 3
Leader then firmly attaches the lid and places it, lid down, 2m from the Cubs
Wait up to 1 minute for it to pop and fly up (between 0.5 and 1.5m usually)
If it doesn't pop, have broom handy for the leader to sweep it aside and pop it using the broom handle
