Description
This indoors session is aimed to explain different aspects of cycling, namely:
Base 1: Bicycle types
Base 2: Fixing a punture
Base 3: Safety
Base 4: Basic mechanics and maintenance
Resources
Base 1: Bicycle types:
Printed photos of different
- bike types: road, MTB, tandem, foldable, ebike, indoor circuit...
- components: brakes, handlebars, wheels
Base 2: Fixing a punture:
- 1x front wheel of a bike to remove the tyre, tube
- levers to replace the tube
- 1x tube
- bike pump
- 5x sections of a tube to apply patches
- large box of puncture repair patches
- pin to pierce the section of the tube
Base 3: Safety:
- Hi-viz vest
- Helmet (if possible different types (fullface, standard, children)
- Lights (USB rechargeable and battery powered)
Base 4: Basic mechanics and maintenance
- Box of small size vynil gloves
- Oil (and a way to apply it)
- Bike
- Cloths, newspapers
- Toolbox with use
Optional : Bike stand
Instructions
Activity is split in several bases / Stalls:
Base 1: Bicycle types:
Showing different pics of bikes (road, MTB, tandem, foldable, ebike, indoor circuit...) pointing at the differences in geometry, components, wheels size and width. Understandding what type of bike is more suitable on each circumstance.
Base 2: Fixing a punture:
- Using the wheel and levers, participats will learn how to remove the tyre and tube from a wheel, also how to put it back.
0 Using the sections of a tube participants will practice how to apply patches
Base 3: Safety:
- Participants will be shown the different components that will make their ride safer.
- Participants will be shown how to properly wear a helmet.
- Participants will also be told how to signal when turning on a bike.
Base 4: Basic mechanics and maintenance
- Participants will learn how to grease a chain and why is it essential to do it
- Participants will learn how to adjust brakes
