Fake wounds and blood

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

I have used these a lot in training first aiders, event first aiders and in Scouts. You can make up a batch and freeze any unused leftovers in pots to use again the next time.

Give the right to opt out if they don't want to do the scenario work.

Can get very creative with wounds, I let half the group get making the wounds then give them the twist they have to go and treat someone else in the Troop/Pack. Another way is setting up scenarios with wounds included and half the group is out, but then come in having to do incident management and treat,

Resources

Fake skin ingredients

1 cup plain flour
1 cup water
½ cup salt
1 tablespoon cooking oil
2 tablespoons cream to tartar
Liquid black coffee or gravy browning to darker as needed

Fake blood ingredients

450g golden syrup
1 cup of custard powder mixed with a little water
Red and yellow food colouring as needed
Liquid black coffee or gravy browning to darken as needed

Instructions

Fake skin recipe
Mix it all together in a saucepan and heat slowly until the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan. It can be moistened with water should it dry out, Colour with a small amount of liquid black coffee or gravy browning to match skin colour. Check skin reaction before using, as some people react to salt on their skin. Smooth onto the skin using wet hands and can then create cuts in the dough with a blunt object like a credit/loyalty card or bottom of a teaspoon, being careful of the skin below.

Fake blood recipe, edible version – not eaten it personally!

Mix the custard powder with the syrup and colourings. Heat slowly in a saucepan on a low heat until the mixture no longer stains your skin. The heating should stabilise the food colouring in the mixture. If you have a large syringe this can help in applying it.
