Instructions

Week 1
Part 1 - 20 mins
Try to take no more than 5 mins for 1-3, and leave about 15 mins for 4 and 5

Cubs to explain why you must lock up a bike, and where to lock it up
Cubs to explain why are lights and reflective clothing important
Cubs to explain safety measures when cycling in bad weather
Ask Cubs about Green Cross Code
Ask Cubs about different pedestrian crossings

Part 2 - ~20 mins
Can reduce time if need more for part 1

Draw a poster to promote road safety to pedestrians or cyclists

Equipment

- Chairs
- Paper
- Colouring pencils/pens

Part 3 - 20 mins
Mock car ride
Push tables to the side and use the chairs as the car seats

Equipment

Explain what the road signs mean

Equipment
- Tables
- Chairs
- Road signs pictures
- Pencils/pens

Part 4 - ~30 mins
Can reduce time if need more for part 3

Games
Cubs to sort out which ones and to tell the Leaders

Homework
Keep a record for the next few weeks on when they rode their bike.


Week 2

Base 1 - 2 adults
Go over each bike to check it’s in good condition
While doing this ask why it’s important to check
Go for a short bike ride, include indicating

- Cubs to bring bikes, helmets, high vis jackets, lights
- High vis jackets for adults
- Spare high vis jackets for Cubs

Base 2
Clean and oil a bicycle

Equipment
- Oil and cleaning supplies
- Bike to work on (one of the Cub’s?)

Base 3
Mend a puncture

Equipment
- Inner tube
- Hole making tool
- Puncture repair kit(s)

Pump up the tyres

Equipment
- Bicycle pump
- Use a Cub’s bike to pump up tires?
