Campfire songs
Summer is the best time of the year for camping and therefore the best time to earn your Campfire Leader Interest Badge (this can count towards your Diva Badge too)! One of the badge requirements is to make your own campfire songbook. So, included here are step-by-step instructions on how you can make your own!
Step 1: Decide how many pages you would like your book to be. The number of pages you want will determine how much paper you need. Six to twelve sheets of paper make a twelve to twenty-four-page book (including front and back pages).
• Knowing how many songs you want to include in your songbook will help you decide the appropriate number of pages, so make a list of the songs you want to include first.
• You can use more than 12 pages, but binding may become more difficult with more pages.
• You can use the included template (as shown in the next page) as a cover or get creative and use some cards and make your own!
Step 2: Fold your paper in half. Fold each page of the paper you have chosen short end to short end (fold the paper in half horizontally to create the pages of the songbook).
• Folding each page individually will give you a cleaner crease and more even lines than trying to fold all of the pages together at once.
• Be sure the edges of the page are lined up nicely before making your crease.

• Folding each page individually will give you a cleaner crease and more even lines than trying to fold all of the pages together at once.
• Be sure the edges of the page are lined up nicely before making your crease.
• Sharpen your crease by running your fingernail along it, or by sliding a hard object such as a pen or pencil along the edge.
Step 3: Group the pages together to form a book. Put the halves inside of each other. If you have more than six sheets of paper, create sets of pages with no more than six sheets each. Then, once you are sure each page is lined up, staple/stitch/tape your pages together.
Step 4: Now that you have completed all the difficult parts, you can start to decorate your songbook. Start by writing in all your songs - you can hand write this part or print out typed copies of the songs and stick them in. From here, if you decide to make your own cover, you can decorate it using whatever materials you wish! You could decorate the inside pages too – personalise it however you wish!
