Instructions
Tonight, as a Gladiator, you have faced lots of challenges. The same is of course true with our own lives.
Consider how some of the challenges we face can be shaped by the people around us
1) Can you think of any challenges that you have faced recently? Were any of those challenges made worse
due to peer pressure from people around you? Did that pressure make you do things differently to how
you should/could have faced the challenge?
2) In the Bible Paul advises us to “Make the right choices, do not be misled, come back to your
senses and stop sinning.” 1 Corinthians 15:31
3) As a group discuss the following scenarios, what would you do?
• Your mates have said they will distract the shopkeeper if you sneak a couple of bottles of Prime into
your bag and leave.
• Your best mate is bullying someone at school and wants you to get involved.
• Someone said they would pay you £10 to do their homework for them.
• Your mum has said you can’t attend a party at your mate’s house as she is worried what will happen at
it. Your friends encourage you to lie to her and just say you are going to go to the cinema instead.
4) The challenge of peer pressure can be extremely difficult, people do not always make the right choices.
Friends can sometimes make us feel pressurised or tempted to do things that we don’t really want to do,
going against our beliefs.
5) Remember that it is always OK to say no and instead be strong and stand up for your beliefs. True friends
will accept you for who you are. Although you may have disagreements, they will always be there for you.
A true friend can still offer you peer pressure, but in a positive way by being supportive, kind, loyal and
influence and guide you to make a positive choice. Is that the sort of friend you are to your mates?
“Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you’ve got, be resolute, and love
without stopping.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
