World Challenge Award Item 7 - Take part in activity that explores an international issue.
This is a 1 hour activity on the current theme of Forever Chemicals or FPAS (like Teflon and PTFE)
There chemicals take 1000 years to degrade and are responsible for lots of cancers - If you have seen the Netflix film "Dark Waters" about Dupont you will be aware.
This activity is based on a 16 page pack researched in October 2023 and runs with 3 bases for 1 hour to complete the badge activity

The attached deck printed 3 times for each base
Base 1 - Cut out of the items on slide 4 for the PFAS products Kim's game
Base 2 - Big questions for Scouts on slide 11
Base 3 - Cut out the items on slide 16 for the "6 things you can do" dice activity

Be worthwhile researching online and bringing in good and bad examples of products to bring to life

Instructions

Give all scouts a short introduction first to the issue. What it is and how it affects people all over the world. 5 mins
Split the Scouts into 3, and run 3 bases of 15 minutes each
Scouts rotate around the bases in any order
Base 1 - Which exact products contain forever chemicals
Base 2 - The harm that has been caused across the world
Base 3 - What Scouts and their parents can do about it
Finally have a wrap up 5 mins
