Description

Make water 'clean enough to drink' by filtering the sequins/glitter.

Resources

10 cups,
Strong paper towel roll or 20 coffee filters
Sequins/Glitter

Pictures of unclean water in 3rd world countries.

Instructions

Prep: Half fill 5 cups with water and add sequins/glitter. Put on a table with a paper towel or coffee filter on top of a clean empty cup.

Activity: Discuss clean and dirty drinking water. We are lucky ours is clean from the tap or bottle.

Start to show the children what happens when we tip the cup of 'dirty' water in to the 'filter' cup.

Discuss how and why.

Children then have a go at filtering their own water.

(for older sections you can add in mud etc to get full effects of the filters, maybe use different filters to see which works best)
