Description
Simplest possible recipe for Beavers to make a mince pie each
Resources
Spread or butter (to grease baking tin)
Jus rol unsweetened shortcrust pastry sheets x 4
2 x jars mince meat
Milk
Sugar
Kitchen roll (to grease tray)
Baking trays x 2 (each with 12 sections for a pie)
Pastry cutters x 2 (one larger than the other)
Spoons x 8 (2 spoons per lodge for mince meat)
Pastry imprint (optional - makes a holly shape in pie top)
Small bowls or beakers for milk x 4
Small bowls or beakers for mince meat x 4
Pastry brushes x 4 (one per lodge)
Oven gloves
Oven
Washing up bowls & cloths (to wash hands and clear up after) x 2 = one for each table
Instructions
Defrost the pastry well in advance
Set up with 2 tables, a lodge at each end and a baking tray in the middle
Adult per lodge spreads out pastry sheets leaving them on the greased paper
Beavers in lodges take it in turn to:
- Wash hands in washing up bowl
- Grease tray section (dip kitchen roll on spread and wipe over tray section)
- Cut base and place in section
- spoon mince meat onto base
- Cut lid
- imprint lid (optional)
- paste a little milk on underside of lid
- place lid on filled base and press round to seal
- paste a little milk on top of lid
- sprinkle sugar onto lid
Adult takes trays to oven - bake for around 20 minutes on 180 fan or until golden brown
Cool
Beavers eat a pie (not necessarily their one) or take it home
