Description
Using a large field at night, communicate using only torches and morse code
Resources
Torches, Morse Code sheet, Pen and paper
Instructions
Set the scene by talking about a trip they took into the ,mountains, where they got caught in the dark and needed to speak to their base camp. the radio has stopped working, and the message needs to get to base urgently. how could they get a message to base camp.
Split into teams of four, then split that team into two. Each pair needs a pen, paper, torch and morse code sheet. One team will head off into the dark, far enough away that they cannot be seen, and can only be identified from torchlight.
Give each pair that has travelling off into the dark two messages they need to transmit. The other pair will recieve and translate the messages. Score based on closest messages to the actual transmition.... Repeat the exercise swapping the teams around.
I think it works best if one person translates the message, and another writes it down.
Messages such as the following help prevent them guessing the answers and make it funnier when they get it right. : -
Hooray for Penguins
Mars beats Snickers
need monkey pizza
Itchy Ear fungus
Eat Pie with cheetos
Leader Wants wine gums
Banana Crisp Milkshake
Kitty Cat Butt Burp
