Description

Decorate a ping pong ball to look like a planet and put a fake tea light underneath to light up.

Resources

● 1 x ping pong ball per person
● 1 x fake tealight per person
● acrylic paint (we used blue and yellow)
● 1 x bowl per person (we used china)
● 1 x hairdryer

● 1 x craft knife

Instructions

Before the session, cut a small cross into the bottoms of all the ping pong balls. I also pushed each ball over the tealight to make the hole bigger (but this did cause one of the lights to break).

1. Put 2 small blobs of paint into the bowl (1 of each colour). We also put a name on masking tape on each bowl so that we could tell them apart and this then got transferred to bottom of tealight

2. Give each child a ping pong ball to briefly roll around in paint

3. Dry with a hairdryer to speed up

4. Push ping ping ball over tealight

We ran this at the beginning of the session and then followed on with a game and pin hole constellations.

We found even if some turned out completely green, the craft was still effective once the ligjt was turned on.
