Description

Play this twist on a game of Monopoly, where instead of collecting properties you’ll be getting active with fitness exercise and challenges. Who will finish the game with the most ‘fitness properties’ and be crowned champion?

Resources

‘Fitness Monopoly’ Board
Dice x 2

Instructions

Leader Preparation
A leader will need to print out the ‘Fitness Monopoly’ board and collect the other resources needed for this activity.

1) A leader should print out the ‘Fitness Monopoly’ board and place this on a table. The rest of the group should sit around the table ready to play.
2) Explain that we are going to play monopoly, but with a twist. This version is called ‘Fitness Monopoly’ and will challenge the group to put their fitness levels to the test, in an attempt to generate the most points at the end of the game.
3) Players should take it in turns to roll both dice, and then move the corresponding number of spaces around the board.
4) When a player lands on the square they have rolled, they should then complete the fitness activity that is showing (i.e. 5 sit ups, 8 seconds plank, 10 seconds boxing etc). The fitness activities get harder as you work your way around the board, but the points also get greater as you land on the more expensive properties. For some of the activities you may need to do the exercise on the spot (i.e. sprinting) or by pretending to use equipment (i.e. boxing, skipping).
5) Once a child has completed their fitness activity, they should be awarded the number of points that is showing on the square they are on. A leader should record the tally of points throughout the game.
6) Some of the squares don’t contain fitness activity and instead have other instructions such as roll again, miss a go, steal points and lose points.
7) Continue the game, with children taking it in turns to have a go, generating as many points as they can.
8) Play for a set period of time (i.e. 10-15 minutes) or for a set number of goes (i.e. everyone gets 10 rolls in total).
9) The child at the end with the most points is the winner.
