Eat One Raisin

Report Copyright Infringement View in OSM UK

Description

A first taste of mindfulness. Slow down and use all of the senses.

Resources

At least one raisin per participant - ideally several back-up raisins as well, just in case!

Instructions

Look at the raisin closely - what do you see? Have you ever stopped to look this closely at a raisin?
Smell the raisin - what does it smell like? What happens in your nose as you breathe its aroma in?
Feel the raisin in your hand, exploring the texture - what does it feel like?
Listen to the sound the raisin makes as you squidge it between your thumb and forefinger - what does it sound like?
Place and hold the raisin in your mouth, without chewing - how does it feel on your tongue?
Taste and chew the raisin - can you do this slowly? Does it taste different to usual, when you're eating more quickly?

Talk to others about your experience! What was it like? How did it make you feel? Are there any other situations where you can slow down and experience something differently? Do you think doing this could help you to calm down when you're stressed? What do you do when you're stressed?

Consider trying again if a Squirrel accidentally (or deliberately) swallowed the raisin too quickly.
