Description
Crafting a pretend AED (Defibrillator) for use on a dummy
Resources
• Clean pizza box per participant
• Scissors or craft knife
• One set of stickers per participant, including ones for the box, adult pads, and child pads
• Means of sticking them to the box/to the string
• String, about a metre
• Sellotape
• Green tab each, eg a tiddly wink or a piece of stiff green card
• Access to Sam Trainer app
• Songs such as Staying Alive and access to play them.
Instructions
Using the attached photo as a guide. Build a pizza box AED.
The pads need to be double sided attached to the end of the string. One pad per string. The other end of pieces of string need to be firmly attached inside the box.
Craft the green tab (tiddly wink/green card) so that when it is pulled, the strings and pads are pulled out of the box.
Once you have a pizza box AED, it is time to practice on a dummy. You could use a home made dummy such as https://www.onlinescoutmanager.co.uk/programme.php?action=view&id=81733
SAM Trainer app has all the instructions that a real AED would say. So just follow that!
For a bit more entertainment, additional do CPR to a song such as Staying Alive.
