Description
Whether you are learning about moon phases or just need a great craft to do with your kids, this Moon Craft is the perfect activity to add to your art projects. The fun night sky theme is so much fun to create with kids of all ages. Use it the next time there is a full moon and teach your little astronauts all about the night sky using this fun craft.
Resources
Black cardstock paper, (8×11)
White cardstock (any size, this is what you will cut the moon out of)
Foam glitter stars (I used a mix of silver and gold stars in a variety of sizes)
White paint
Paintbrushes
Metallic Silver Paint
Cotton Balls
Clothespin
White glue if your foam stars aren’t peel and stick stars
Instructions
Just a note before getting started: you will be flicking white paint at your surface as one of the last steps. I recommend doing this activity outside or on a surface that is covered or protected.
Clip a clothespin to the top of a cotton ball.
Dip the cotton ball in silver paint and stamp your paint on a white piece of cardstock in a rough circle shape. It’s okay if some white peeks through as that’s how the moon looks.
Once the paint is dry, cut the painted area in a circle shape.
Add a touch of water to your white paint on a paper plate or paint dish. Dip a paint brush in it. While holding the paint-loaded brush above the black paper tap it with another paintbrush to scatter the paint onto the black paper. Do this until you get a galaxy-looking sky.
Once the paint is all dry, add your moon and stars.
If the scene you created doesn’t look shiny enough, you can always add a sprinkle or two of silver glitter to make it shimmer like the night sky. Let the crafts dry completely before displaying them anywhere so the paint doesn’t drip and ruin the moon. These look so cool hung up all over the room
