Description

Beavers hunt for hidden card with letters on them. The letters have been written using a mix of baking soda and water so you can't see anything when you collect them.

Once all the cards have been found we use a turmeric and hand sanitiser to "paint" over the card and reveal the hidden letters. Then get the beavers to make the statement using the letters.

The Turmeric acts as a pH indicator which changes colour when it comes into contact with substances that are acidic or basic so when applied to the baking powder which is alkaline it turns red. The alkaline properties of the baking powder cause the turmeric to change colour.

2 Cups for mixing (or more if the beavers are doing it in smaller groups)
2 paintbrushes (or more if the beavers are doing it in smaller groups)
cardboard

Instructions

Mix the bicarbonate and water together to create the "invisible ink". Apply to the pieces of card.

Hide the cards for treasure hunt

Mix the turmeric and sanitiser and get the beavers to reveal the hidden message
