Instructions
Leader to check clothing is suitable when Cubs are dropped off (shoes, long top and trousers, warm jacket).
Cubs to wait down the road on the verge after they get out of vehicles, and to be given a clipboard with quiz on (and pen/pencil if they haven’t brought one with them).
Tell to group before departing:
Do as adults say
Take care and no running, especially along the river, on the road, and on narrow paths; the ground is uneven
Give way to other path users were possible
There will be a short break just after half way to have a drink; this is the only planned stop until we’re back at the Hut
Cubs are not to overtake the adult at the front unless told to do so; there may be new risks
There will be an adult at the back to make sure no one is left behind and to let us know if someone needs to overtake us
Adults will be spaced throughout the group to keep people moving, and to look out for any problems; adults: call out to the whole group so we know if we need to stop and/or help, or slow down; we need to keep the group together
When we’re walking on the road we will be walking on the right hand side and in single file
Slow walkers towards the front to set the pace
Instructions to parents
We will be hiking from Lower Radley back to the Hut; please drop Cubs at the point marked on the map: https://tinyurl.com/y3opp65y; there isn't space for parking so please car share where possible. We will be leaving at 6:30pm so please be on time/early.
There are no loo breaks along the hike so we advise that Cubs go before leaving home.
We are aiming to be back at the Hut by 8pm, but this will depend on the walking pace of the group, so we may be up to approximately 20 minutes late.
Hikers must wear sensible shoes (hiking boots are preferable over trainers), long trousers and a long sleeve top; there are stinging nettles along the route.
They must be dressed appropriately for the weather (waterproofs if rain is likely) and have a warm jacket as it may get chilly later in the evening, high vis jacket.
They must bring, in a backpack:
a pen/pencil
Torch (depending on time of year)
drink
any medication they may need
Adults will not be carrying things for Cubs and we will not be responsible if anything is lost.
