Story Game
Resources
Story
Story labels

Assign words to a wall/corner. Someone reads out the story and the YPs run to the relevant wall/corner when they hear that word in the story.

Potatoes and Ireland
Many poor people grew potatoes for food. Potatoes grew on poor soil, even in wet and cold conditions.

When a potato disease (blight) arrived, it was a disaster. Potatoes went rotten, and were not fit to eat. People went hungry. More than 1 million people starved to death. Many more got sick. In Ireland, one in four people died or emigrated. The potato famine of 1846 to 1852 was one of the worst events in Irish history.

Hot potato
Resources
Bean Bags

Version 1
Have the players sit in a circle.
One player sits in the middle of the circle; this player is the leprechaun.
The leprechaun starts the game by throwing a "potato" to one of the players in the circle.
The leprechaun then closes their eyes and keeps them closed while the potato is passed among the players in the circle.
After the potato has been passed for a while, the leprechaun shouts a colour of the rainbow.
The player holding the potato at that moment leaves the circle and is out of the game.
Play continues until only one player is left in the circle.
That player is the winner and gets to be the leprechaun for the next game.
Keep playing until each player has had a turn as the leprechaun

Rules
If someone throws the potato so the next person can’t catch it and a colour is called the thrower is out
If the potato is mid air when a colour is called no one is out

Version 2
Each person runs up the hall tossing the ‘potato’, you cannot have it in your hands for more than a second before you have to toss it in the air. There and back and toss it to the next member.

Leprechauns
A leprechaun is a type of fairy in Irish folklore, usually taking the form of an old man, clad in a red or green coat, who enjoys partaking in mischief. The Leprechauns spend all their time busily making shoes, and store away all their coins in a hidden pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If ever captured by a human, the Leprechaun has the magical power to grant three wishes in exchange for their release.

Catch the snakes
Resources
Rods (see Prep)
“Ireland” (see Prep)
Table
Cones
Put “Ireland” (1 per team) on the table with a rod

Place a bowl of snakes at the other end of the hall in front of each team
Put a rod next to each bowl
YP form up in teams at one end of the hall, explain that the bowl represents Ireland and that they are going to be St Patrick and that they have to "rid" Ireland of all the "snakes"
One at a time the YPs run up and try to catch at least 1 snake, once they have caught a snake they return to their team with the snake and the next person goes
First team to empty their "Ireland" of snakes wins, or set a time limit and count how many are left (lowest number of snakes left to catch wins)

Rules
YPs must not run with the rod
Their turn ends once they have caught at least 1 snake
If they catch more than 1 snake at a time that’s fine they can take them all
