An excuse for Scouts to learn how to set up and use expedition stoves

Resources

A stove per patrol (ideally identical)
Fuel per patrol (mix of meths and gas or other)
Water
Digital scales
Matches or similar
Stop watches if measuring time to boil as well as fuel consumption

Instructions

Explain how to set up, use and pack down the stoves safely.

Place a measured amount of water in each pan, e.g. 500ml.

Weigh the gas can or meth burner (+ fuel) before and after the water has been brought to a rolling boil.

Start timer from point the burner is lit.

Compare speed and fuel consumption results
