Creating a wooden spoon
Resources
Green wood - one piece approx 6cm and 20 cm long, split into two. One piece per Scout.
Bushcraft knives - one per Scout
Hook knives - one per Scout, can share if they work at different paces
Sand paper
Oil
Knife sharpening kt
First aid kit
Instructions
1. Talk about working with knives safety.
2. Draw the spoon onto the wood with a pencil. use as much of the wood as possible.
3. Working away from you, work from the bottom of the bowl to the handle end of the wood, to whittle away until a handle appears.
4. Whittle the corners
5. Round out the back of the bowl
6. Using a hook knife, whittle away at the wood where the bowl will be. Being careful not to make it too thin,
7. Use sanding paper to smooth it.
8. Use a product such as vegetable oil or beeswax to season the wood.
